Scrap Trident
![]() |
A British nuclear-powered Trident submarine is out on patrol ready, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to fire sixteen nuclear-armed missiles. Each submarine carries 48 independently-targeted nuclear warheads. Each warhead has seven times the explosive power of the first atomic bomb at Hiroshima, which killed 140,000 civilians. This is costing us £1.5 billion every year. Find out more from National CND's website http://www.cnduk.org/pages/campaign/trident.html |
CND opposes the replacement of Trident and believes this money would be better spent on defeating poverty at home and abroad, and providing for employment, education and health. Find out more about the campaign at http://www.cnduk.org/pages/campaign/ntdtrep.html
Missile
Defence: the new threat
![]() |
CND is campaigning against the US Missile Defence system, which far from being a defensive system, is a system for control, domination and offence, and which threatens to provoke nuclear proliferation. CND also opposes the development of space weapons and demands that space be kept for peace. |
The two key US bases in Britain needed for the missile defence system are in Yorkshire. Yorkshire CND is one of the country's leading organisations campaigning against missile defence. For more information, look at www.yorkshirecnd.org.uk

CND believes in a nuclear-free, less militarised and more secure Europe, as well as no nuclear or other expansion of Nato. Also that Britain should withdraw from Nato and all foreign military bases on British soil should be closed. More info from National CND http://www.cnduk.org/pages/campaign/nato.html |
